D8: This is why....

This is the road I live on - covered with ice. This is what the roads in most neighborhoods look like after a snowfall in middle Tennessee. This is why schools were closed before the snow ever started and why everyone seems to panick and run to the grocery store when snow is forecasted. Total accumulation in my part of town was less than two inches. The grass wasn't completely covered, but the roads were. We don't have the snow removal equipment to service side roads. When night time comes, any melted snow refreezes into ice. We have a big problem with black ice - ice you can't see but it will send your car for a spin if you hit it.  This will be around until the temp gets back above freezing - at least another 2 or 3 days. Thankfully I have front wheel drive and don't have to travel far before I get to a main road that has been cleared - so I can get to the store for milk and bread. :)
